Verity Higgins is a highly accomplished and versatile artist, boasting a diverse range of experiences and skills in the performing arts. With a graduate degree from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA),she has worked as a director, actor, project coordinator, and teacher, showcasing her remarkable adaptability and talent.
Throughout her illustrious career, Verity has directed for various esteemed organizations, including festivals, theatre companies, and tertiary institutions, as well as working as a freelance artist. Her impressive résumé is punctuated by awards for screenwriting, directing, acting, and project management, solidifying her position as a respected figure in the industry.
In 2005, Verity ventured to the UK, where she served as Associate Director and actor for the small touring company North Country Theatre. Upon her return to Australia, she took on the role of Regional Arts Development Officer with Regional Arts Victoria, based in Ballarat.
Verity's creative endeavors have led to the production of a documentary, The Big Sing, which tells the story of the Sweet Mona's choir. This project was successfully acquired and broadcast on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in 2010.
Since transitioning back to freelance work at the end of 2013, Verity has worked as an actor, director, and producer on a diverse range of projects, including developing a new theatre work, The Freda Experience, for presentation at the Castlemaine State Festival and Nati Frinj in 2015.
One of Verity's most notable acting achievements is her role in the short film Nathan loves Ricky Martin, which garnered numerous awards, including an AACTA/AFI nomination. Her mainstream acting credits include guest roles on popular television shows such as Dr Blake, Fancy Boys, The Wrong Girl, and Hamish & Andy's True Stories.
Verity's most recent theatre work includes performances in Hotel Now's production of Her Father's Daughter and La Mama's Blazing Son. In addition to her artistic pursuits, Verity is a devoted mother of three adult children and resides in Regional Victoria.
