Biography

Alexandra Feodorovna, a distinguished individual, was born Princess Alix of Hesse and by Rhine on June 6, 1872, a date that would prove significant in the annals of Russian history.

As the last Empress of Russia, Alexandra's life was intricately woven into the fabric of the Romanov dynasty, a legacy that would be forever etched in the memories of those who lived through the tumultuous years of revolution and war.

On November 26, 1894, Alexandra married Emperor Nicholas II, a union that would last for over two decades, until the fateful day of March 15, 1917, when Nicholas's forced abdication marked the end of the Romanov dynasty and the beginning of a new era in Russian history.

Alexandra, a beloved granddaughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, was unfortunately destined to follow in her grandmother's footsteps, as she was also a carrier of the debilitating genetic disorder known as haemophilia. This inherited condition, which had afflicted Queen Victoria, would ultimately be passed down to Alexandra's son, Alexei Nikolaevich, the future Tsarevich of Russia, whose life would be forever marked by the challenges and hardships associated with this inherited trait.

Alexandra Feodorovna, the last Empress of Russia, bore the brunt of public criticism and scorn due to her ill-advised and misguided influence on her husband, Nicholas II, which led to his refusal to relinquish his autocratic powers and adopt more democratic reforms.

Alexandra, along with her closest relatives, met a shocking and untimely demise at the hands of their Bolshevik captors in the year 1918, amidst the chaotic and tumultuous backdrop of the Russian Revolution.

In the year two thousand, a significant milestone was reached when the revered Russian Orthodox Church issued a formal decree, officially bestowing upon Alexandra the sacred title of Saint Alexandra the Passion Bearer, a profound testament to her extraordinary and lasting influence on the world.
