Biography

Tony Todd, the 6' 5" charismatic actor, is best known for his chilling performance as "Candyman". Since his debut in the fantasy film Sleepwalk in 1986, he has consistently delivered compelling performances.

Born in Washington, D.C., Todd spent two years on a scholarship at the University of Connecticut, which led to a scholarship from the renowned Eugene O'Neill National Theatre Institute. He then attended the Hartman Conservatory in Stamford, Connecticut, and the Trinity Square Repertory Theatre Conservatory in Providence, Rhode Island.

Todd's extensive credits showcase his versatility, including film classics such as The Rock, The Crow, Lean on Me, Bird, Night of the Living Dead, Final Destination, Platoon, and The Secret, which was nominated and screened at the Cannes Film Festival. He has also appeared in numerous critically-acclaimed television series, including Boston Public, For the People, The District, NYPD Blue, Smallville, Law & Order, Crossing Jordan, Homicide: Life on the Street, and The X-Files.

Todd has had prominent guest starring roles in several television series, including recurring roles on Boston Public, For the People, and The District. He has also appeared in numerous television movies, including True Women, Black Fox, Butter, Ivory Hunters, Babylon 5: A Call to Arms, and Control Factor.

In addition to his film and television work, Todd has a considerable theatre background, having originated the title role in August Wilson's "King Hedley II" in Pittsburgh, Seattle, and Boston. He received a Helen Hayes nomination for his performance in Athol Fugard's "The Captain's Tiger" at La Jolla, the Manhattan Theatre Club, and the Kennedy Center. Other notable theatre credits include "Les Blancs", "Playboy of the West Indies", "Othello", "Zooman and the Sign", "Dark Paradise", "Aida" on Broadway, and "Levee James" for the prestigious Eugene O'Neill Playwrights Conference and The New Dramatist Guild.
