Biography

Anthony Patrick Caunter, a robust and balding British character actor, is renowned for his extensive tenure as Roy Evans on the popular television series EastEnders, a role he played for an impressive nine years, spanning 634 episodes from 1994 to 2003.

Born in Southampton to Roy Robert and Annie Mary Joy Caunter (née Stratton),Anthony grew up in Worthing and, after completing his education, served in the Royal Air Force (RAF). Upon his return to civilian life, he pursued a career in drama, studying at the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).

Caunter's professional acting career began in 1962, and he quickly found himself in numerous small supporting roles in cult television shows, often portraying police officers. He made three appearances as different characters in the iconic science fiction series Doctor Who, in 1963.

Throughout his career, Caunter has had recurring roles in various television shows, including Queenie's Castle, The Legend of Robin Hood, Beryl's Lot, Crown Court, Juliet Bravo, and The Chief. His impressive range and versatility as an actor have allowed him to take on a wide variety of characters.

In addition to his television work, Caunter has also appeared on stage, performing with the Farnham Repertory Company from 1966 to 1969 and later with the Theatre Royal in Windsor from 1984 to 1989.

After retiring from acting in 2016, Caunter is said to be residing in East Sussex with his wife, Frances Wallace, and their three sons and a daughter.
