Biography

Tony Asimakopoulos is a Canadian filmmaker who resides in Montreal, Canada. His extensive professional background includes the creation of RETURN TO PARK EX, a documentary film released in 2017, which explores the rich history of Montreal's immigrant hub, Park Extension, and was broadcast on Canal D and CBC Docs.

Moreover, Asimakopoulos has also produced the critically-acclaimed feature film FORTUNATE SON, which premiered in 2012 and became one of the highest-grossing theatrical documentaries in Quebec that same year. This notable film was showcased at numerous prestigious film festivals, including the Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival (IDFA),the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, the Montreal Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, and the Los Angeles, Chicago, London, and Sydney Greek Film Festivals. Additionally, his films have also been featured at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF),the Locarno International Film Festival, the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, the Göteborg Film Festival, and the Melbourne International Film Festival.

Asimakopoulos has also ventured into the realm of comedy, co-writing and directing a series of comedy shorts for CBC's Wiretap alongside Jonathan Goldstein, who is also the creator of the popular podcast Heavyweight. Furthermore, he has created the genre short film A XMAS MEMORY, which was produced as part of the TIFF Talent Lab in 2013.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Asimakopoulos has also dedicated his time to mentoring and teaching media production to youth-at-risk.
