Tomoya Nagase is a multifaceted Japanese artist, exceling as both a singer and actor. As the youngest member of the renowned musical group TOKIO, under the Johnny Entertainment label, he serves as the primary vocalist and guitarist alongside the group's leader, Shigeru Joshima. Throughout his career, he has been affectionately referred to by various nicknames, including Nagase, Tomoya, Naga-kun, Tomo-kun, Baby, and Tomobaby.
Born in Yokohama, Nagase's early life was marked by his father's profession as a professional motorbike-rider. Due to his parents' inability to care for him, he was sent to nursery school at the tender age of six months. Unfortunately, his parents later divorced.
Inspired by the bands Hikaru Genji and SMAP, Nagase answered the recruiting call of Johnny Entertainment and was subsequently accepted as a member of TOKIO. This marked the beginning of his illustrious music career.
In 1992, Nagase made his stage play debut alongside fellow TOKIO members in the productions PLAYZONE and MASK. During TOKIO's early performances, he initially played the tambourine as a background dancer for SMAP.
On September 21, 1994, TOKIO officially debuted as a band, releasing its first single, LOVE YOU ONLY, which went on to sell over half a million copies.
Throughout his acting career, Nagase has starred in an impressive 42 dramas. His first leading role was in Hakusen Nagashi (1996),followed by additional lead roles in Ikebukuro West GatePark, Mukodono!, and Tiger & Dragon. Notably, Mukodono! marked his first comedic role, and he also received critical acclaim for his performance in My Boss My Hero. In 2002, he received the special award "Ishihara Yuijiro Award" as "The Best Newcomer" for his role in the movie Seoul.
Beyond his entertainment career, Nagase has also served as a brand ambassador for several notable products, including Fujicolor and TOPPO.
