Tom Moore is a renowned director in the theater, known for his work on productions such as "'night, Mother" and "Grease". He received his second Tony nomination for "'night, Mother", which won the Pulitzer Prize, and directed the original production of "Grease", which ran for eight years and is one of the longest-running shows in Broadway history.
Over the years, his productions have introduced many talented actors who have gone on to work steadily in theater, film, and television, including Barry Bostwick, John Travolta, Richard Gere, Peter Gallagher, Greg Evigan, Treat Williams, Patrick Swayze, Marilu Henner, Adrienne Barbeau, and David Paymer.
Moore has a long association with the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles, where he has directed numerous productions, including "A Flea In Her Ear", "Division Street", "A Month in the Country", and "'night Mother". He has also directed productions at the Ahmanson Theatre, the American Conservatory Theatre, and the Williamstown Theatre Festival, among others.
In addition to his work in theater, Moore has also directed for film and television. His short film "Journey" won two international film awards, and he has directed episodes of popular TV shows such as "ER", "Mad About You", "L.A. Law", and "Gilmore Girls".
Moore is a fellow of the American Film Institute and holds a B.A. from Purdue University and an M.F.A. from the Yale University School of Drama. He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Fine Arts, honoris causa, by Purdue University and is currently on the executive board of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.
As an avocation, Moore is involved with the Circus Arts and spends as much time as possible on the flying trapeze.
