Biography

Tom Key is a renowned American actor, producer, director, and playwright who has made a significant impact in the world of theatre. As the Artistic Director of Theatrical Outfit in Atlanta from 1995 to 2020, he drove the company to become one of the city's premier performing arts institutions.

Throughout his illustrious career, Key has appeared in over 100 productions, including notable roles at Alliance Theatre, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Kenny Leon's True Colors Theatre, Arena Stage, Atlanta Opera, Atlanta Ballet, and Theatrical Outfit. His extensive repertoire includes a wide range of productions, from classic plays to musicals.

As a director, Key has also made a mark, helming productions such as Horton Foote's "The Chase" and "Dividing the Estate", which received the "Best Production" award from ArtsATL. His other directing credits include "Godspell", "Memphis", "Keeping Watch", and "Hank Williams Lost Highway".

In addition to his work in theatre, Key has also toured internationally with his one-person show, "C.S. Lewis On Stage", which he adapted from the writings of the renowned author. The show has been performed at esteemed institutions such as the John F. Kennedy Center, Harvard, Yale, and Oxford University.

Key has also adapted several books for the stage, including "The Moviegoer" and "Lost in the Cosmos", both of which received critical acclaim. He has also written and performed in numerous productions, including "Leap" at The Alliance Theater, which was praised as "riveting" by the Atlanta Journal and Constitution.

As a celebrated actor, Key has starred in numerous productions, including "Cotton Patch Gospel", which was nominated for several awards, including the Outer Critics Circle Award. His other notable roles include "Lamb's Theatre Off-Broadway", "The Westwood Playhouse of Los Angeles", and "The Dallas Theatre Center".

In addition to his work in theatre, Key has also appeared in several films and television shows, including "Irresistible", "Bluff City Law", "Doom Patrol", "Sistas", and "The Adventures of Ociee Nash".

Throughout his career, Key has received numerous awards and accolades, including the Governor's Award in the Humanities, the Georgia Arts and Entertainment Legacy Award, and three Mayoral proclamations for his service to the City of Atlanta.
