Tom Irwin, a native of Illinois, embarked on his theatrical journey by attending Illinois State University. Upon graduation, he joined the esteemed Steppenwolf Theatre Company of Chicago, where he had the privilege of collaborating with renowned artists, including Laurie Metcalf, John Malkovich, Gary Sinise, and Joan Allen.
Throughout his illustrious career, Irwin has been involved in over 50 Steppenwolf productions, both as an actor and director. Some of his notable credits include "The Grapes of Wrath," which was also performed at the Royal National Theatre, "Balm in Gilead," which was also showcased Off-Broadway, "My Thing of Love," which premiered on Broadway, "Frank's Wild Years," a production featuring the legendary Tom Waits, and "Space," which was also performed Off-Broadway.
In the summer of 2002, Irwin co-starred alongside the iconic Madonna in "Up for Grabs" at the Wyndham's Theatre in London. Furthermore, he has held faculty positions at The Goodman School of Drama at DePaul University and Columbia College in Chicago.
In addition to his impressive filmography, Irwin has made a name for himself in the world of television, starring in numerous telefilms and serving as a series regular on "My Life and Times" (1991) and "My So-Called Life" (1994). Today, Tom Irwin resides in Los Angeles.
