Todd Voltz was born in Rapid City, South Dakota, a city nestled in the heart of the Black Hills, where the air is crisp and the scenery is breathtaking. However, his childhood was marked by a significant move, as his family relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana, shortly after his father completed his tour of duty in Vietnam. This move had a profound impact on Todd's life, shaping his perspective and influencing his creative pursuits.
As a young boy, Todd was fascinated by the world of storytelling and filmmaking. At the tender age of nine, he convinced his sister and cousins to participate in a movie awards show, complete with ridiculous categories and the same three films winning every award. This early experiment in creativity sparked a passion within Todd, which would only continue to grow as he grew older.
Throughout his youth, Todd wrote stories and took allegorical photographs, honing his skills as a writer and artist. He attended the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (N.O.C.C.A.) in the visual arts track during high school, where he refined his talents and developed a keen eye for detail.
After completing high school, Todd enrolled in college, where he won a full scholarship to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (USL) for theater. However, he soon transferred to Loyola University of New Orleans, where he earned degrees in both theater and writing. During his time at Loyola, Todd appeared in several student films and served as a liaison between the actors of Loyola and the filmmakers at the University of New Orleans.
Following his graduation, Todd began working in the film industry, starting as a production assistant and eventually working his way up to set dresser and art director on commercials and music videos. Simultaneously, he continued to write, produce, direct, and act in no-budget films with friends and acquaintances.
The tax incentive for film production in Louisiana, which was introduced in the early 2000s, had a significant impact on the state's film industry, leading to a surge in production. Todd was at the forefront of this movement, capitalizing on the opportunities presented by the incentive and working on a variety of projects.
Todd's big break came when he landed a role in the film "Waiting," which provided him with his first close-up on the national big screen. He followed this up with comedic parts in "Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay" and "College." He also secured TV gigs on "The Riches," "Treme," and "Memphis Beat."
In addition to his work in film and television, Todd has also made a name for himself in the world of web series. He produced the popular show "Amped!," which featured the rock band Supagroup, and later collaborated with long-time friend Billy Louviere to produce and star in "The Whiskey Talking." This role earned Todd his first Best Actor award from the Genre Blast Film Festival.
After a year living in France, Todd returned to New Orleans, where he continues to work on a variety of projects, including music, writing, producing, and editing film and multimedia projects. He resides on the outskirts of the city with his wife, daughter, and black cat, Bat.
