Person biography:
T'Keyah Crystal Keymáh is a talented performer, writer, producer, and director who has been entertaining audiences since childhood. Born in Chicago, Illinois, she studied theater, dance, voice, and pantomime in high school and later earned a degree in Theatre from Florida A&M University.
After college, Keymáh worked as a singer, dancer, and actress, winning the title of Miss Black Illinois and placing first runner-up in the Miss Black American pageant. She then moved to Los Angeles, where she wowed casting directors with her original performance piece, "In Black World...," which led to her starring role on the groundbreaking sketch comedy show "In Living Color."
Throughout her career, Keymáh has appeared in numerous television shows, including "On Our Own," "The Show," "Waynehead," "Cosby," "That's So Raven," and "There's Johnny." She has also starred in several stage productions, including her award-winning solo show "Some of My Best Friends" and her self-penned stage projects "T'Keyah Live... Mostly: A True Variety Show," "Sellout!?!", and "Don't Get Me Started."
In addition to her work in television and theater, Keymáh has also been a vocal advocate for natural hair and has written a popular coffee-table book, "Natural Woman/Natural Hair," which features her own experiences and tips for styling African American natural hair.
In recent years, Keymáh has taken a break from performing to focus on her grandmother's care and well-being, and is now starring on her own online variety show, "The Cool Crystal Show," and working on a new book, "Cycle of Love: 28 Days of Organization, Rejuvenation, and Meditation for Inspired Self-Care."
