Biography

Born in the year 1914, Thurl Ravenscroft spent his formative years in Norfolk, Nebraska, a city located in the Midwestern United States. Prior to settling in the entertainment capital of Hollywood, he served as a navigator in the United States Army Air Transport Command during World War II.

As a talented singer, Ravenscroft was a member of several notable vocal groups, including The Sportsmen Quartet, The Mellowmen Quartet, The Johnny Mann Singers, and The Norman Luboff Choir. He also had the opportunity to perform alongside numerous major stars, such as Jim Nabors and Elvis Presley.

However, it was his distinctive voice-over work that Ravenscroft is perhaps most famous for. For many years, he provided the iconic voice of Tony the Tiger in advertisements for Kellogg's Frosted Flakes, a popular breakfast cereal. His smooth, deep voice was featured in countless commercials, both in English and Spanish.

In 1996, Ravenscroft retired from his active career and relocated to southern California with his wife, June. Although he continued to do occasional voice-over work, including reprising his role as Tony the Tiger, he eventually passed away in 2005 due to complications from prostate cancer.
