Biography

Terence J. Donovan, an Anglo-Australian actor, is well-known for his roles in the Australian television soaps Neighbours and Home and Away.

Born in England, Donovan migrated to Australia in 1951 and began his screen career ten years later with a role in the legal drama Consider Your Verdict.

He returned to England from 1963 to 1967, where he appeared in various theatrical productions and had minor supporting roles in British television shows, including Man in a Suitcase, The Prisoner, and The Champions.

Upon his return to Australia, Donovan secured a contract with Crawford Productions, which led to a six-year stint as Detective Mick Peters in Division 4, followed by a two-year role as Detective Senior Sergeant Vic Cameron in Cop Shop.

During this period, he also appeared in the period drama miniseries Power Without Glory and as senior security supervisor Eric Jackson in the crime drama Money Movers.

In 1978, Donovan played the role of Harry 'Breaker' Morant in the Melbourne Theatre Company production, but was replaced by Edward Woodward in the 1980 film adaptation.

In the 1980s, Donovan's roles included Tom Burlinson's on-screen father in The Man from Snowy River, a timber baron in The Winds of Jarrah, and guest spots on The Flying Doctors, Sons and Daughters, Prisoner, and A Country Practice.

He resumed his stage career in the UK during the 1990s with a touring production of Peter Pan, and in 2006, he portrayed Australia's controversial Catholic Archbishop Daniel Mannix in Melbourne.

Donovan's son, Jason Donovan, is an actor and singer who was born to Donovan's first marriage to television actress and news presenter Sue McIntosh.
