Tayfun Pirselimoğlu, a multifaceted Turkish creative, was born in 1959 in Trabzon. He embarked on his academic journey at Middle East Technical University, where he later pursued painting at the prestigious Hochschule für Angewandte Kunst in Vienna, Austria.
Pirselimoğlu's artistic endeavors didn't stop there. He held numerous exhibitions in various cities worldwide, including Vienna, Istanbul, Ankara, Budapest, and Tallinn, showcasing his remarkable talent. He was also one of the founding members of the independent art initiative Akademie Genius, where he shared his expertise through lectures on scriptwriting, cinema, and painting.
Furthermore, Pirselimoğlu conducted workshops on filmmaking in Wien, Athens, Ankara, and other cities, nurturing the next generation of creatives. His literary endeavors are equally impressive, with six novels under his belt: "Tales from the Desert", "Album of the Missing Persons", "Melancholia", "Towers of the City", "Kerr", and "The Barber". He has also written three storybooks: "Rooms of the Hotels", "The Newest Lives of Harry Lime", and "The Other Side of the Desert".
Pirselimoğlu's foray into filmmaking began as a scriptwriter, penning scripts for various shorts and features. He then ventured into direction, debuting with the short film "Dayim" (My Uncle) in 1999, followed by "Il Silenzio e d'Oro" (Silent is Golden) in 2002, both receiving numerous international accolades.
In 2002, he shot his first feature film, "Hiçbiryerde" (In Nowhereland),supported by Eurimages, which also garnered numerous awards. His trilogy, "Conscience and Death", comprising "Riza" (Riza) in 2007, "Pus" (Haze) in 2009, and "Saç" (Hair) in 2010, premiered at esteemed film festivals, including the Berlinale Forum and Locarno FF, and received critical acclaim.
SIDEWAY (2017),his most recent feature film, premiered in Warsaw and has won six awards at various festivals. The production of his latest feature film, adapted from the book "Kerr", was completed in 2020, cementing Pirselimoğlu's reputation as a versatile and accomplished creative force in the Turkish film industry.
