Tala Hadid, a multifaceted artist, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Columbia University in the United States.
As a photographer and filmmaker, Hadid has made significant contributions to the world of art and cinema. Her first feature documentary film, Sacred Poet, is a testament to her dedication to her craft, and it was a tribute to the renowned filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini.
Throughout her career, Hadid's films have been showcased at numerous prestigious film festivals globally, including the Berlin Film Festival, Venice Film Festival, and the Toronto Film Festival. Her work has also been exhibited at iconic venues such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and Lincoln Center in New York City, the Walker Arts Center in Minneapolis, La Cinémathèque Française in Paris, the Smithsonian Museum and the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C, the Los Angeles County Museum, and the Photographer's Gallery in London.
Hadid's films have garnered numerous accolades, including a student Oscar from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Her photographs have also been published in the Stern Fotografie Portfolio series, which highlights emerging photographers.
In 2014, Hadid completed her award-winning film, Itarr el Layl, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and went on to screen at various film festivals and venues worldwide. Her project, House in the Fields, was an official selection at the Berlin Film Festival in 2017, where it was nominated for the Glashütte Original Documentary Award.
House in the Fields received numerous awards, including the Commune di Milano prize for best feature film at the 2017 FCAAL Milano Film Festival, the Prize for Best Documentary film at the Hong Kong International Film Festival, the Fiction/Non Fiction award at Millennium Docs against Gravity in Warsaw, the 2M Grand Prize at Fidadoc 2017, the 2017 John Marshall Award in the US, the Special Jury Prize at the 2018 National Film Festival in Tangiers, and the Grand Prize of the city at the 2018 International Mediterranean Film Festival of Tetouan.
In 2019, Hadid participated in the Rabat Biennale with her installation, Floodplain. Her work is also part of the Ruben Bentsov Moving Image Collection at the Walker Museum in the US. As a testament to her dedication and expertise, Hadid is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
