Suzanna Hamilton was discovered by filmmaker Claude Whatham at a children's experimental theater in north London at the age of 12. She made her screen debut in 1974 in the film "Swallows and Amazons" and later starred in the BBC miniseries "Disraeli".
Hamilton received training in acting at the Anna Scher Theatre School and the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Her first major screen role was as Izz Huett in Roman Polanski's 1979 film "Tess".
She went on to feature in many more motion-pictures and television dramas, including Michael Radford's "Nineteen Eighty-Four" (1984) opposite John Hurt, and Sydney Pollack's "Out of Africa" (1985) with Robert Redford and Meryl Streep.
In the 1990s, Suzanna had a recurring role as Dr. Karen Goodliffe on the British TV hospital dramatic series "Casualty". She also made appearances in European films, such as the German film "Devil's Paradise" (1987) and the Danish period drama "Island on Bird Street" (1997).
In addition to her work on screen, Suzanna continues to do theater and voice work. She has made her first West End appearance in 1982, starring in Tom Stoppard's play "The Real Thing". She has also played the lead in several stage productions, including Lucinda Coxon's "Waiting at the Water's Edge" and Euripides's "Ion".
Suzanna has also lent her voice to a 1991 audio-book recording of Julian Barnes' novel "Talking It Over".
