Susana de Sousa Dias was born in Lisbon, Portugal in the year 1962, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey. With a strong foundation in academia, she completed a thesis in Aesthetics and Art Philosophy, and holds university degrees in both Painting from Lisbon University and Cinema from the National School of Theatre and Cinema. Additionally, she has a background in music, having studied at the National Conservatory of Music.
Currently, Susana is working towards a PhD in Aesthetics, Art Science, and Technology at the University of Paris 8. Her research focuses on the intricate relationships between Cinema and Contemporary Art, with a specific emphasis on the concept of archive.
As a lecturer at the Lisbon University of Fine Arts, Susana shares her knowledge and expertise with students. In 2001, she founded the production company KINTOP, which has enabled her to produce and direct several films. One of her most notable works is the documentary film Natureza Morta - Visages d'une dictature, which premiered in 2005 and has since been showcased in festivals and screenings across five continents. The film has received numerous awards, including the Prémio Atalanta Filmes at DocLisboa 2005, the Merit Price at the Taiwan International Documentary Festival in 2006, and an Honorary Mention at the Slow Film Festival in Hungary in 2007.
Susana is currently working on two new projects: Obscure Light, a documentary feature film, and Natureza Morta - Stillleben, an installation on three screens.
