Born on June 28, 1961, in Sovabazar, North Kolkata, Surojit's life took a significant turn in 1970 when his family relocated to Chandannagar, Hooghly, West Bengal, where he has resided ever since.
As a young man, Surojit was drawn to student politics and found inspiration in his uncle, a prominent political worker in the Sovabazar area. This early exposure to politics and social activism laid the foundation for his future endeavors.
Throughout his career, Surojit has written regular columns for various newspapers and magazines, showcasing his versatility as a writer. One of his notable collaborations was with filmmaker Q, with whom he worked as a writer and researcher since 2006.
In 1992, Surojit joined forces with Ruchir Joshi to create the film "Egaromile" (Eleven Miles),which explored the world of Bauls. This project marked a significant milestone in his journey as a researcher and writer.
In 2000, Surojit edited a special edition of Dahapatra, a Bengali magazine, dedicated to the life and work of Dipak Majumder, a renowned Bengali writer, thinker, theater artist, and counterculture activist.
Since 2015, Surojit has been editing Desher Agamikal, a Bengali Web-Zine, where he continues to share his expertise and passion for Bengali alternative and counterculture with a wider audience.
