Sugizo, a talented musician, was born into a family with a rich musical heritage. His father, a Japanese-Chinese musician, played the trumpet in the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, while his mother, a Japanese-German musician, played the cello in the same orchestra. From a young age, Sugizo was exposed to music and began practicing the violin for three hours a day under his father's guidance.
Sugizo's musical talents didn't stop at the violin, as he also learned to play the cello, flute, guitar, bass, piano, and several other instruments. At the age of 17, he formed a rock band called "Pinocchio" with his friend Shinya. The band performed at livehouses, where they met another band called "Lunacy," formed by J and Inoran.
After "Pinocchio" disbanded, Sugizo and Shinya joined "Lunacy" on January 16, 1989. The band was still without a vocalist, but a year later, they found Ryuichi. Shortly after Ryuichi joined, the band changed its name to "Luna Sea" to reflect a more peaceful tone. This marked the beginning of one of Japan's most popular rock bands, which would go on to release 11 CDs over the next decade.
"Luna Sea" was one of the first bands to popularize the "visual" look, a style that was pioneered by the band X Japan a few years earlier. The guitarist of X Japan, hide, was also the person who discovered "Luna Sea" and signed them to a major record label.
After "Luna Sea" disbanded in 2000, Sugizo pursued a solo career, releasing five albums and composing the soundtrack for a movie in 2001. He continued to compose and release singles, including the lovely "Super Love," which pays homage to 1970s music while still showcasing Sugizo's unique style.
Throughout his career, Sugizo has been recognized for his incredible talent and dedication to his craft. He is a true musician, and his contributions to the world of rock music are immeasurable.
