Sudha, a pioneering figure in the world of theatre, co-founded Tamasha in 1989 alongside Kristine Landon-Smith, serving as co-Artistic Director for an impressive 26 years until 2015. During her tenure, she not only acted and wrote, but also played a crucial role in shaping the company's artistic direction.
As a playwright, Sudha has made significant contributions to Tamasha, penning numerous plays including 'Balti Kings', 'Fourteen Songs, Two Weddings and A Funeral', 'Strictly Dandia', and 'A Fine Balance', often performing in these productions herself. Her children's play, 'Child of the Dividhe', premiered at the Polka Theatre in 2006, and she later adapted Lorca's 'The House of Bernarda Alba' into 'The House of Bilquis Bibi' in 2010.
Sudha's collaborative spirit has led to numerous successful projects, including three series of 'Girlies' for BBC Radio 4, alongside Shaheen Khan. The duo also co-wrote the stage play and radio series 'Balti Kings', as well as a six-part radio series. Their screenplay, 'The House Across the Street', was showcased on BBC4 as part of a new writers initiative, and they have co-written an episode of the popular BBC drama 'Doctors'.
In addition to her work in theatre, Sudha has ventured into film, co-writing the short film 'Midnight Feast', which premiered at the 11th Raindance Film Festival. Her achievements have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the 2005 Asian Women of Achievement Award for Arts and Culture, jointly won with Kristine Landon-Smith, and the 2010 First Women Award in the Tourism and Leisure category.
