Biography

Bernard Kotzin, better known as Stubby Kaye, was a talented and beloved tenor with a warm and lovable personality, despite his butterball frame. Born in New York, he began his career in the world of entertainment in 1939, after winning a radio contest. He spent over a decade touring as a comedian in vaudeville, appearing regularly with the USO during the war years, and eventually made his mark on Broadway in 1950 by creating the iconic role of Nicely-Nicely Johnson in the hit musical "Guys and Dolls". His powerful performances of show-stoppers like "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat" and "Fugue for Tinhorns" solidified his status as a star.
