Steven Meyer's professional career in the entertainment industry began at the tender age of 13, when he started working in theater. As a teenager, he honed his skills as an actor and stage manager in Minnesota, before landing a position at the prestigious Guthrie Theater in 1980.
During his time at the Guthrie Theater, Meyer had the opportunity to work with a diverse range of directors, including Liviu Ciuli, Garland Wright, Allan Schneider, Richard Foreman, and Marshall Mason. He also toured his production of "Steambath" through maximum-security prisons in the Midwest, and directed critically acclaimed productions of "Happy Birthday, Wanda June" and other shows.
In 1982, Meyer made the move to New York's East Village, where he shifted his focus to film and television. He began working as an independent video producer, collaborating with Juan Downey on a number of video art pieces that have been exhibited at institutions such as the Whitney Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and national and international museums.
Meyer's work in film and television has been extensive, and he has crewed for a variety of clients, including Nike, Benetton, Post Perfect, The Biosphere in Arizona, Dennis Earl Moore, Edwin Schlossberg, Val Kilmer, and Laurie Anderson. He has also worked as a producer, director, designer, and technical director on a range of projects.
Since 1994, Meyer has focused primarily on visual effects and post-production, serving as a supervisor, producer, and director on features, long-form television, and commercials. He has developed efficient CGI pipelines and crews, and has also created a project management system for tracking shot layers through the CGI pipeline.
Meyer is currently working with Historical Media, and has recently co-directed, produced, and edited the documentary "Keepers of Eden," narrated by Joanne Woodward, which won the "Pierre Salinger Award" for best documentary at the New York Avignon Film Festival. He is also directing the documentary "Buried Prayers," a feature-length HD originated documentary about bringing an archaeological team to the Nazi death camp Maidanek and what they found there.
