Stephen Nathan originated the role of Jesus in the hit musical Godspell in 1971, winning the Variety Critics' Poll for Best Actor in a Musical and earning a gold record for his work on the Original Cast album.
As an actor, he worked on both coasts before settling in Los Angeles, where he acted in film and television projects until the late 1970s.
In the late 1970s, Nathan transitioned to writing and producing, developing feature films at all the major studios and penning and/or producing over 300 television episodes.
Some of his notable writing and producing credits include Laverne & Shirley (1976),Everybody Loves Raymond (1996),Love & War (1992),and Tracey Takes On... (1996),for which he received an Emmy nomination and won the Writer's Guild Award.
Nathan also worked on Jesse (1998),which earned a People's Choice Award, and Family Law (1999),where he served as Executive Producer alongside David Shore and Paul Haggis, an Academy Award winner.
In addition to his work on Family Law, Nathan collaborated with Haggis on numerous other television projects.
Between 2003 and 2005, Nathan served as Executive Producer on the award-winning series Joan of Arcadia (2003) and created a new comedy for the BBC, That's It For Richard.
In 2005, he became an Executive Producer on the FOX hit Bones (2005).
