Stephen Macht, a highly educated and accomplished actor, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Janette (Curlenjik) and Jerome Irving Macht. He is of Russian Jewish descent.
Macht received professional training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, and he holds a Ph.D. in Dramatic Literature from Indiana University. He also served as a tenured Associate Professor during his teaching days.
Stephen has had a distinguished career in film, television, and theater, starring in numerous productions, including "The Crucible," "12th Night," and "Saint Joan" at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Canada. He was scouted and signed by Universal Television to begin his film career in Hollywood.
Throughout his career, Macht has played leading men in plays and dozens of television movies and feature films, including "Raid on Entebbe," "Graveyard Shift," "The Immigrants," and "Cagney & Lacey." He has also recurred on several television shows, including "Boston Public," "Jack & Jill," and "Boomtown."
In addition to his acting career, Macht has also worked as a director and professor. He taught at Smith College and was a tenured professor at Queens College in New York. He has directed theater and television productions in Los Angeles and has also been involved in various charitable causes.
Macht is the father of actor Gabriel Macht and has three other children. He has eight grandchildren and counting. In his free time, he enjoys providing entertainment for his family and friends.
