Stephen Amell is a Canadian actor, widely recognized for his portrayal of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow in the Arrowverse television franchise, as well as Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016). Born on May 8, 1981, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to Sandra (Bolté) and Thomas Amell, he is of English, Scottish, German, and one sixteenth French-Canadian descent.
Stephen began his acting career in his teenage years, appearing in two episodes of the fourth season of Queer as Folk in 2004. He later played Adam in the first season of the television series Dante's Cove, replacing Jon Fleming in the second season. In 2007, Amell won a Gemini Award for his guest-starring role on ReGenesis and was nominated for a Gemini Award in the Best Ensemble Cast Category for Rent-a-Goalie.
Amell had recurring roles in the TV series Da Kink in My Hair and Heartland. He joined the cast of The Vampire Diaries as werewolf 'Brady' for season 2 and starred as Joran Van Der Sloot in the Lifetime film Justice for Natalee Holloway, which originally aired in May 2011.
In 2011, Amell starred as busboy-turned-prostitute Jason in the third season of HBO's series Hung and appeared as Jim in the fourth season of 90210. He also played the role of Travis in Blue Mountain State and was cast as the title character in The CW series Arrow, a re-imagining of the comic-book character Green Arrow.
On March 31, 2015, Amell joined the film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows as vigilante Casey Jones, which was released on June 3, 2016. As an avid professional wrestling fan, Amell campaigned for a guest appearance on WWE's weekly Raw program and eventually made his debut on May 25, 2015, where he had a confrontation with Stardust.
Amell continued his storyline with Stardust on August 10, 2015, and at SummerSlam, he teamed with Neville to face Stardust and King Barrett. He won the Slammy for the "Celebrity Moment of the Year" for his dive onto Stardust.
Amell has also been involved in various charity campaigns, including a successful campaign with the charity Fuck Cancer, which raised almost a million dollars with the release of a T-shirt featuring his face. He has also launched campaigns for mental health charities and children's hospice Emily's House.
In his personal life, Amell married actress and model Cassandra Jean on December 25, 2012, and they have a daughter, Mavi, born in 2013. Amell is a fan of various local sporting teams, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Raptors, and the Toronto Blue Jays, and often jokes with fans about his favorite teams.
