Biography

Stephan De Montaignac, a classically-trained actor of Scottish and Cornish ancestry, embarked on a distinguished career in the performing arts. His academic pursuits led him to secure a scholarship to study at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, where he subsequently became a member of the esteemed Royal Shakespeare Company.

Chase's impressive stage credits include a 1976 tour of India and (then) Ceylon in the title role of David Colville's stage production of "Hamlet". He also appeared in notable stage productions such as Noël Coward's "Private Lives" and "Suddenly, Last Summer" by Tennessee Williams.

On screen, Chase frequently portrayed aristocrats or authority figures, showcasing his versatility as an actor. His notable roles include Osborne Hamley in the six-part miniseries "Wives and Daughters" (1971),based on the novel by Elizabeth Gaskell, and Richard the Lionheart in the 1980 adaptation of Walter Scott's novel "The Talisman".

In addition to his acting career, Chase founded the Rhubarb voice-over agency in 1988, which provided voiceovers for various projects, including the iconic video game character Lara Croft in "Tomb Raider". He later established Stephan Chase Productions, a consultancy and audio production company.

Throughout his career, Chase cited Charlton Heston and Montgomery Clift as among his favorite actors, highlighting the significant influence they had on his own work.
