This foundational experience ultimately paved the way for him to transition into directing, with his debut feature film, Rebound, released in 1959, following a gestation period of approximately one year, in 1958.

Throughout his prolific career, Hayers established himself as a journeyman director, accumulating a diverse range of credits across various mediums. His extensive repertoire of work encompasses episodes of television programs on both sides of the Atlantic, an array of television movies, and second-unit directing responsibilities on notable feature films, including A Night to Remember, released in 1958, and A Bridge Too Far, released in 1977.

As his life drew to a close, Sidney Hayers was residing in Spain alongside his actress wife, Erika Remberg.
