Shlomi Eldar is a renowned documentary film director and journalist who has dedicated two decades of his career to covering the Palestinian Authority, with a specific focus on the Gaza Strip, for Israel's prominent television channels, Channel 1 and 10.
In 2007, Eldar received the prestigious "Sokolov Prize", Israel's most esteemed media award, in recognition of his outstanding work. As a published author, Eldar has written two books: "Eyeless in Gaza" in 2005 and "Getting to Know Hamas" in 2012.
In 2010, Eldar directed the documentary feature film "Precious Life", which tells the heartwarming story of a Palestinian mother and an Israeli pediatrician's courageous efforts to treat a four-month-old Palestinian baby suffering from a genetic disease.
"Precious Life" went on to achieve significant accolades, including winning the Ophir Award (Israel's equivalent of the Oscar for best documentary) in 2010, as well as being officially selected for the Toronto International Film Festival and the Telluride Film Festival in the same year. The documentary was also shortlisted for the Academy Award and broadcast on HBO.
In 2017, Eldar's latest documentary, "Foreign Land", took home the award for best documentary feature film at the Haifa Film Festival in October of that year.
