Born in occupied Korea, Kang Shin-yeong attended Geonguk University, where he majored in Korean Literature, laying the foundation for his future endeavors.
He made his film debut in 1960, starring in director Shin Sang-ok's Romance Papa, a milestone that marked the beginning of his illustrious career, which has spanned over five decades and comprises more than 500 movie appearances.
Interestingly, his debut film director, Shin Sang-ok, initially suggested the name Kang Shin-sung-il, but it was later shortened to Shin Sung-il, a moniker that would accompany him throughout his professional life.
Throughout his illustrious career, Shin Sung-il has received numerous accolades for his outstanding performances, including awards for best actor and best supporting actor, in films such as Gajeong gyosa (1963) and Dalbit sanyang gun (1986).
In 1979, he took on a new role, becoming the chairman of the Korean Actors League, a position he held for several consecutive terms, demonstrating his leadership skills and commitment to the industry.
After a long and distinguished career as an actor, director, and producer, Shin Sung-il decided to retire from the film industry and pursue a career in politics, a bold move that has ultimately led to his election to the National Assembly, where he remains to this day.
