Sherman Bergman was a multifaceted individual who made a name for himself in the world of boxing, kickboxing, and entertainment.
Born and raised in Miami Beach, Florida, Bergman was the only child of Polish-born actress/dancer Anne G. Sterling and war hero/movie extra Hank Bergman.
As a child, Bergman appeared on several South Florida television shows, including The Skipper Chuck Show, JumpnJack, Banjo Billy, and Charlie Baxter's Big Top Circus.
He graduated from Miami Beach Senior High, where he studied acting under the guidance of legendary drama teacher Jay W. Jensen.
Bergman's academic pursuits continued as he graduated from Miami Dade College, Florida International University, and Nova Southeastern University, earning a Master's Degree.
In his early years, Bergman pursued a career in amateur boxing, competing in the 1981 South Florida Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament in the 147-pound Open Division. He retired from amateur boxing in 1983 with a record of 17 wins (17 knockouts) and 4 defeats.
Bergman also had a successful kickboxing career, competing from 1980 to 1996 and boasting a record of 19-1 (19 knockouts) according to The Star System Computerized World Ratings for Professional Kickboxing.
In 2009, Bergman retired from kickboxing competition, and his record was listed as 56-8-0 (56 knockouts) in a Miami Herald newspaper article.
In addition to his athletic pursuits, Bergman had a 30-year career as a teacher for Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
During his teaching tenure, Bergman had the opportunity to mentor numerous South American actors and actresses, including Santa Monica Gomez, Rocío Bastidas, Conchita Puglisi, Gustavo Cardozo, Haydee Ramírez, and Carlos Augusto Maldonado.
Bergman also made appearances in numerous movies, usually as an extra or in uncredited parts.
In 2024, Bergman participated in a goodwill amateur boxing exhibition in West Africa, where he was stopped in the first round.
