Biography

Samuel Horwitz, better known as Shemp Howard, was born in the bustling metropolis of Brooklyn, New York, USA. He was also the brother of two other notable individuals, Moe Howard and Curly Howard, who would later join him in the renowned comedy troupe, The Three Stooges. Interestingly, Larry Fine, another prominent member of the group, was not related to the other Stooges.

During his time away from his work with The Three Stooges, Shemp made numerous appearances in feature films, including the notable 1940 comedy, The Bank Dick, alongside the legendary W.C. Fields. The Three Stooges, consisting of Shemp, Moe, Larry, and Curly, only collaborated on a single short film together, titled Hold That Lion! (1947). In this particular short, Curly made a brief, non-speaking cameo appearance as an uncredited train car passenger. Look closely for the individual wearing a hat on his face, a subtle nod to Curly's presence. This cameo was a result of Curly's stroke the previous year, which left him unable to speak.
