Kathleen Eleanor Mulhern, later known as Sheila Terry, was born on March 5, 1910, in Warroad, Minnesota, despite her Irish surname, having an ancestor in John Wycliffe, who translated the Bible into English. She had always dreamed of being an actress from a young age, and at the age of teenager, she studied dramatics at the Dickson Kenwin Academy of Dramatic Art in Toronto.
