Shayla Stonechild, a talented individual of Plains Cree descent from the Muskowpetung reserve, currently resides in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she is an artist in residence at the esteemed Skwachays Lodge.
With a passion for the performing arts, Shayla began her journey at the tender age of six, engaging in various activities such as acting, dancing, and modeling. Her early exposure to the arts was largely influenced by her mother's performing arts company, which instilled in her a deep appreciation for the craft.
Shayla's formal education in the arts was further solidified when she graduated from the prestigious Vancouver Academy of Dramatic Arts. Throughout her career, she has remained actively involved in her community, earning numerous titles and accolades, including Metis Youth Ambassador of Alberta, Sogo Active Community Host, Youth Director of Sunworks Arts & Cultural Society, and finalist for Miss Teen Canada, proudly representing her hometown of Medicine Hat.
Shayla's impressive resume also includes hosting Season 1 of APTN's Red Earth Uncovered alongside her co-star, Tom Jackson. When not filming, she dedicates her time to facilitating youth-led workshops focused on suicide prevention and promoting self-esteem through the healing power of the arts, encompassing acting, dancing, modeling, and public speaking.
In addition to her performing arts pursuits, Shayla is currently studying at the Vancouver School of Yoga, while continually expanding her artistic portfolio and resume.
