Shawn-Caulin Young, a talented American actor, writer, director, and producer, hails from a hard-working middle-class family in Lamar, Colorado. Born on March 22, they are the youngest of four children to father Jim, a jockey and racehorse trainer, and mother Julie. Growing up in the desert outskirts of the Navajo Nation, in the reservation border town of Farmington, New Mexico, Shawn's heritage is a rich blend of Irish, English, Norwegian, and Swedish descent.
As a high school student, Shawn-Caulin discovered their passion for storytelling and pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from The Hartt School, a prestigious performing arts conservatory. After completing their classical training in England and graduating with top honors, Shawn moved to New York City to launch their career in film and television.
Their big break came when they were "discovered" by Burrows/Boland Casting and director Robert Zemeckis during the casting process for a live-action version of The Yellow Submarine. Zemeckis selected Shawn-Caulin (second only to Cary Elwes) from an international talent pool to play the role of George Harrison, the famed Beatles guitarist. Since then, Shawn has worked on numerous film, television, and theater productions worldwide, earning a reputation for their ability to physically transform into other characters.
In addition to their acting talents, Shawn-Caulin is an experienced horseman, stuntman, and athlete. As a writer, they were hand-picked from 3600 applicants for the 2022 Screencraft Fellowship, recognizing their exceptional screenwriting abilities. Inspired by their childhood growing up with cowboys and the Indigenous, Young writes through the lens of the working poor experience, blending genres with magical realism to tell the untold stories of the Southwest and beyond.
