Sharon Helga Corr is a talented musician and member of the renowned Irish pop/rock/Celtic group The Corrs, alongside her brother Jim and sisters Andrea and Caroline. Their parents, both musicians themselves, played a significant role in encouraging each of their children to pursue a career in music. Sharon began learning the violin at the tender age of six, and between the ages of seven and 14, she played in the Redeemer Youth Orchestra of Country Louth.
The siblings' musical journey began when they auditioned to play in the musical film The Commitments (1991). The film's musical director, John Hughes, recognized the band's potential and became their manager. Sharon plays the violin in the band and provides harmonizing vocals, backing up her sister, lead singer Andrea Corr. Sharon often takes the lead in press interviews with the band, showcasing her charismatic personality.
The Corrs' music is a unique blend of traditional Celtic sounds and modern pop influences, drawing inspiration from legendary acts such as the Eagles and the Carpenters. In 1994, the band landed a recording contract with producer David Foster of Atlantic Records (USA). Their debut album, "Forgiven, Not Forgotten" (1995),was followed by "Talk on Corners" (1997),"In Blue" (2000),and "Borrowed Heaven" (2004). To date, they have sold an impressive 30 million albums worldwide.
The Corrs have had the privilege of performing on tour with renowned musical acts such as U2, Celine Dion, and the Rolling Stones. Even the legendary Mick Jagger has praised the band, stating, "They blew us, the Stones, off our own stage." The Corrs have also made appearances on Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and have created an MTV-sponsored "Unplugged" video.
In addition to her work with The Corrs, Sharon has also pursued a solo career, releasing her third studio album, "The Fool and the Scorpion," produced by Larry Klein, on September 24th, 2021.
