Sharon Acker was an actress who, although initially touted as a "Star of Tomorrow" by The Motion Picture Exhibitors of Canada in 1969, never quite achieved stardom. Despite being active in the industry, she primarily worked in television and appeared in only a few, relatively undistinguished films.
However, Acker will always be remembered for her significant role as Lynne, the ex-wife of Lee Marvin, in John Boorman's classic 1967 film Point Blank. Her character's vulnerability and sensitivity, exploited by Marvin's rough treatment, left a lasting impact on audiences.
Born in 1935, Acker began her film career in England after the play she was starring in, "Lucky Jim", was adapted into a movie. Although she was not prominent in many films, she did appear in a few during the 1960s, both in Canada and the United States.
In contrast, Acker was extremely active on television, starting at the age of 19 in Canada and later in made-for-TV movies and series in the United States. Her credits include appearances in Star Trek (1966),Mission: Impossible (1966),Gunsmoke (1955),Marcus Welby, M.D. (1969),Barnaby Jones (1973),and many others.
Acker was also a regular cast member on the series The Bold Ones: The Senator (1970) for one year and played the role of "Della Street" in the short-lived series The New Perry Mason (1973). Despite her talent, Acker remained relatively unknown to the general public, seen too little in movie theaters and too often relegated to the small screen.
