Biography

Sergi López, a Spanish actor, has made a name for himself by effortlessly portraying a wide range of characters, from villains to romantic and comedic leads. Born on December 22nd, 1965, in the seaside town of Villanova i la Geltrú, outside of Barcelona, he was drawn to the performance arts from a young age.

Sergi's early interest in the arts led him to France, where he pursued further studies in the field. In 1991, he auditioned for French director Manuel Poirier, who was impressed by his talent and cast him in the lead role of "Western". Poirier and López went on to collaborate on several projects, including "La Petite-Amie d'Antonio", "La Campagne", "Attention Fragile", and "Marion".

Sergi's career in France gained him public recognition, while his native Spain remained relatively unaware of his talents until 1997. That year, he appeared in Catalan auteur Ventura Pons' "Caricies", showcasing his ability to speak Catalan in the role. Following "Caricies", Sergi appeared in more Spanish films, such as "Entre las piernas" alongside Javier Bardem and Victoria Abril, and "Lisboa" with Carmen Maura.

The offer of plum roles in both France and Spain led Sergi to split his time between his adopted nation and his native motherland. In 2001, he won the César Award for his role in Dominick Moll's "Harry, Un Ami Qui Vous Veut du Bien", a performance that solidified his reputation for playing villainous characters.

However, Sergi's filmography is not limited to dark and sinister roles. He has also demonstrated his comedic talents in "Hombre Felices" and "Janis et John". His versatility and range have earned him praise from critics and directors alike, including horror master Guillermo del Toro, who has cast him in several projects, including "El Laberinto del Fauno".

With his impressive range and skill, it is no wonder that Guillermo del Toro has expressed his admiration for Sergi's work, stating that he is "in love" with his performances. As Sergi continues to take on new projects, it is hoped that he will maintain his unique avant-garde style and participate only in films that do justice to his remarkable talent.
