Saxon Logan is a multifaceted filmmaker, driven by his passion for storytelling and his desire to create work that resonates with audiences. Like his mentor Lindsay Anderson, Logan is a vocational filmmaker who only takes on projects that deeply interest him.
Logan's journey began as a trainee at the Royal Court's Theatre Upstairs, where he worked under the guidance of Lindsay Anderson. After a year, he moved on to the Traverse Theatre, where he directed Dr. Galley. Logan then served as personal assistant to Anderson on the director's satire O LUCKY MAN!
Following his stint with Anderson, Logan joined the BBC TV, where he produced two award-winning short films, STEPPING OUT and WORKING SURFACE, featuring his close friend and Scottish filmmaker Bill Douglas. He then worked as a producer on the BBC Art's strand Omnibus, creating critically acclaimed documentaries on DIRK BOGARDE and the figurative sculptor RAYMOND MASON.
Logan's subsequent work as an independent documentary producer/director led to the creation of award-winning documentaries for Channel 4 and ITV, including BLACK RHINO - THE LAST STAND and PLACE OF SKULLS, which brought attention to the plight of endangered African species.
Logan's most notable work, however, is the critically acclaimed film SLEEPWALKER, a combination of political satire and horror that won acclaim at the Berlin Film Festival. Its impact and recognition are now revered.
In recognition of his influential documentary work, Logan was presented with an Honorary Fellowship of the RGS. Lindsay Anderson praised Logan's talent, stating that he has a "prodigious gift" and "can effortlessly fill a large canvas." Logan's selective approach to his work makes his films all the more valuable.
Logan is currently working on various film projects, including a documentary on Mozambican journalist CARLOS CARDOSO and a feature film based on Victorian explorer Dr. Livingstone's ill-fated Zambezi expedition, AT THE GATES OF THUNDER. He has also completed a screenplay called FREEDOM, an epic tale of conflict, tyranny, hopes, and dreams, and is developing a feature film about the Rhodesian Bush War, THE OUTNUMBERED.
In September 2013, the British Film Institute released Logan's Sleepwalker, Stepping Out, and Working Surface on DVD/Blu-ray to great critical acclaim and commercial success.
