Saskia Diesing, a renowned filmmaker, was born in 1972 and spent her early years in Germany until the age of eight, when she relocated to the Netherlands.
Following her graduation from the School of the Arts Utrecht (HKU) in 1996 with a degree in filmmaking, Diesing went on to work at the Dutch broadcast VPRO for seven years, holding the positions of director and editor-in-chief for various television programs.
In 2003, she made her directorial debut with the double-language road movie "DU," which was selected for the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR),the Input festival, and the Prix Europa.
Diesing has since directed and written numerous shorts and TV-movies, with her feature film debut, "Nena," released in September 2014. The film won the Golden Calf awards for best actress and best director at the Netherlands Film Festival (NFF) in 2015.
"Nena" was also selected for several international film festivals, including the Generation 14+ program at the Berlinale in 2015, where it received a Special Mention from the international jury.
Diesing's second feature, "Dorst," based on the novel by Esther Gerritsen, premiered at the IFFR in 2018 and was selected for the International Film Festival Shanghai.
In 2021, she directed the feature film "De Zitting," a #MeToo-inspired story that was nominated for a Golden Calf in the category of Best Singleplay at the NFF.
Throughout her career, Diesing has also served as a senior lecturer in both writing and directing for film at HKU Media, School of the Arts Utrecht, since 2004.
