Biography

Sara Fattahi, a creative force to be reckoned with, was born in the vibrant city of Damascus in 1983. Her academic pursuits took her to Damascus University, where she studied Law, and later to the Fine Art Institute in Damascus, where she graduated with honors.

With a keen eye for storytelling, Fattahi's career in the animation and filmmaking industry began to take shape. She worked as a storyboard artist and animator for several prominent channels, including Al Jazeera Kids and SpaceToon. Her impressive portfolio also includes serving as the art director for soap-operas from 2003 to 2008.

As she continued to hone her craft, Fattahi transitioned to independent filmmaking and production in 2010. Her creative endeavors took on a new dimension, as she collaborated on research and writing projects for independent short films, starting from 2014.

In 2013, Fattahi released her first short documentary, 27 METERS, a thought-provoking work that showcased her unique vision. Her feature-length documentary, COMA, followed in 2015, earning her widespread recognition and acclaim. COMA received the prestigious 'Regard Neuf Award' for the Best First Feature Film at Visions du Réel 2015, as well as the FIPRESCI Award at the Viennale 2015. The film has been screened at numerous prominent festivals, including MoMA's Doc fortnight 2016, Berlin Critics' Week 2016, and São Paulo 2016.
