Sana Khan was born on August 21st, 1987, in Mumbai, India, to a Muslim, Pashtun background. At a young age, she pursued a career in modelling, opting not to further her education after completing her 12th grade. Her first film appearance was in the low-budget B-movie Yehi Hai High Society (2005),followed by small song and dance appearances in various films and numerous television commercials.
Her breakthrough role came with the 2008 Tamil film Silambattam, where she portrayed the character of Janu, a tomboyish village girl. The film received widespread acclaim, earning Sana the 2009 ITFA Best New Actress Award. Following this success, she ventured into the Telugu film industry, signing up for Kalyanram Kathi and the bilingual thriller Payanam/Gaganam (2009),which performed well both critically and commercially.
In the same year, Sana made her debut in the Kannada film industry with Kool... Sakkath Hot Maga, and also acted in two further Tamil and Telugu films from 2011-2012. An appearance on the Indian reality TV series Bigg Boss marked a turning point in her career, as she gained immense popularity among viewers and finished the show in third place.
During her stay on the show, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan offered her a role in his upcoming film, Jai Ho, where she played the role of Kavita Patil, the daughter of the film's main antagonist. Sana also made her debut in the Malayalam film industry with Climax (2013),where she portrayed the character of Supriya, allegedly based on real-life screen siren Silk Smitha.
After taking a break from acting, Sana will return to the big screen in Wajah Tum Ho (2016),an erotic thriller directed by Vishal Pandya, and Tom, Dick and Harry Returns (2017).
