Salome Jens is a highly accomplished American actress, director, dancer, and musician, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Arnold John Jens, a builder/farmer, and his Polish-born wife Salomea Szujeuska, whom she was named after. Her sister Arnette Jens is married to character actor Anthony Zerbe.
Jens attended the University of Wisconsin and later majored in drama at Northwestern University. She began her acting career with the Swan Theatre in her hometown, now known as the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, and made her Broadway debut in 1956 with a part in Sixth Finger in a Five Finger Glove.
She then went on to study dance under Martha Graham and acting with Stella Adler and Herbert Berghof's studio in Greenwich Village. Jens became a Lifetime Member of Lee Strasberg's Actor's Studio in 1962, while working as a secretary to make ends meet. Her prolific and critically acclaimed theatrical career has included roles in famous plays like Jean Genet's The Balcony, Eugene O'Neill's A Moon for the Misbegotten, and Arthur Miller's After the Fall.
Jens has also had a successful career in films and television, often playing off-beat characters. Her notable roles include the Female Changeling in TV's Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Angel Baby, and Seconds. She has appeared in a range of TV shows and movies, including Tales from the Crypt, The Outer Limits, The Untouchables, Superboy, and Green Lantern.
Salome Jens has been married twice, first to actor Ralph Meeker and later to radio and TV personality Lee Leonard. In her private life, she keeps fit by walking and doing weights and has recently attended Comic Con events in the U.S. and abroad.
