Saffron Cassaday embarked on her career as an actor while simultaneously working as an assistant director and editor on various online, television, and corporate projects. In 2014, Saffron directed her first documentary feature film, "Cyber-Seniors," which went on to screen at 14 film festivals, including the High Falls Film Festival, where it won the Audience Choice award.
The film's success was widespread, with it playing to packed houses in over 200 communities, and being broadcast in 40 countries, including PBS, Netflix, and CBC in North America. "Cyber-Seniors" was also nominated for the Golden Trailer Awards' Best Foreign Trailer in 2014 and the American Library Association's Notable Videos for Adults in 2016.
The film's impact extended beyond the screen, inspiring a social campaign that has reached over 800 million individuals through events, traditional media, and social media. The campaign has garnered support from over 900 partners, including the AARP foundation, Best Buy Foundation, TELUS Canada, BlueCrossBlueShield Mn, and numerous schools, universities, and libraries.
Saffron's second documentary film, "Returning Citizens," was shot in Washington, D.C. and focuses on a passionate group of formerly incarcerated individuals who have become leaders in their community. The film was released on Hulu, iTunes, and Amazon in late 2017 and on Bell VOD in April 2018.
In addition to her documentary work, Saffron has directed and edited a range of commercial projects for corporate clients, including Fujitsu, Best Buy, and Ergo-Centric Seating.
Saffron holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from York University and is a Canadian citizen residing in Los Angeles. Through her production company, The Best Part USA, Saffron holds a US Business Visa, allowing her to work legally in both Canada and the United States.
