Saeed Jaffrey was born on January 8, 1929, in Maler Kotla, Punjab, India. He pursued a post-graduate degree in history at the University of Allahabad and also attended the Staff Training Institute of All India Radio. Jaffrey's early career in drama began with the founding of his own English theatre company, the Unity Theatre, in New Delhi between 1951 and 1956. During this period, he also served as a Radio Director with All India Radio.
