Biography

Seung-Ryong Ryu, a talented South Korean actor, was born in 1970 in Seo-choen, a small village. His fascination with acting began at the tender age of 15, after watching a play. This sparked a passion that would stay with him throughout his life.

Ryu went on to study theater at Seoul Institute of the Arts, where he honed his craft. For over a decade after graduating, he worked on small stages, performing in various productions. During this time, he had the opportunity to participate in the non-verbal performance "Nanta," which took him on a five-year world tour. This experience helped him develop his skills and gain valuable insights as an actor.

Ryu made his film debut at the age of 34 in "Someone Special" (2004). Although his role was minor, his performance caught the attention of filmmakers, and he soon became a prolific supporting actor. Despite his college friends having already achieved fame, Ryu's optimism and unwavering passion for acting allowed him to continue pursuing his dreams.

He then turned his attention to television dramas and received critical acclaim for his portrayal of a sensitive gay character in the 2010 series "Personal Taste." This demonstrated his ability to take on a wide range of roles.

After signing with Prain TPC, an entertainment agency, Ryu entered the second highlight of his career. His recent films, including "War of the Arrows" (2011),"All About My Wife" (2012),"Masquerade" (2012),and "Miracle of Cell No.7" (2013),have become massive box office hits in South Korea.

One of Ryu's greatest strengths as an actor is his ability to seamlessly transform into each character he takes on, earning both critical and commercial acclaim. He has played a diverse range of roles, including a hard-nosed Qing dynasty commander, a royal adviser in the Chosun dynasty, an irresistible legendary Casanova, and a mentally-handicapped father.

The success of his latest film, "Miracle of Cell No.7," which received a positive response at the 66th Cannes Film Festival, has made Ryu the center of attention. He is now planning to start a new chapter in his acting career abroad.
