Biography

Russell Wong is a renowned actor known for his captivating on-screen presence and impressive acting abilities, which are complemented by his striking physical appearance. Born in Troy, New York, as the sixth of seven children, Russell is the son of a restaurateur father, William Wong, and a Dutch-American artist mother, Connie Van Yserloo. When Russell was just seven years old, his parents divorced, and he relocated with his mother to California, settling near the breathtaking Yosemite National Park. He spent his formative years in California, attending Santa Monica College.

As a trained dancer and martial artist, Russell possesses the physical agility and skill to perform many of his own stunts, adding an extra layer of authenticity to his performances. His early career milestones include making his big-screen debut in James Clavell's "Tai Pan", guest-starring on the popular drama series "21 Jump Street", and securing a leading role in Wayne Wang's acclaimed independent romantic comedy "Eat a Bowl of Tea". He also appeared in supporting roles in "China Cry" and "New Jack City".

In 1993, Russell received widespread critical acclaim for his outstanding performance in "The Joy Luck Club". This notable role marked a significant turning point in his career, paving the way for more prominent roles and opportunities. In 1994, he landed a high-profile role in the made-for-TV movie "Vanishing Son", produced by Rob Cohen, in which he played a Chinese political activist exiled in America. The show's success led to three sequels and eventually a syndicated TV series. People magazine named him one of the "Fifty Most Beautiful People" in 1995.

Following the conclusion of "Vanishing Son", Russell shifted his focus to big-screen projects, including major roles in "Takedown" co-starring Skeet Ulrich and "Twisted" alongside Sam Jackson and Ashley Judd. His breakthrough performance opposite Jet Li in "Romeo Must Die" solidified his status as a leading actor in Hollywood.

Russell's upcoming projects include starring in the summer blockbuster "Mummy 3" directed by Rob Cohen, as well as the black comedy "Dim Sum Funeral" alongside Bai Ling and Kelly Hu. He will also star alongside Ving Rhames in the martial arts thriller "Unshakable" this Fall.
