Biography

Ruby Blaine, born Ruby F. Blain on August 27, 1903, in Hutchinson, Kansas, was the youngest of nine children to Leo Blain, a fisherman, and his wife. The family relocated to Colorado when Ruby was young, where she developed a passion for riding horses and competing in rodeos, even participating in one at the age of sixteen.

After winning a local beauty contest, Ruby moved to New York City in 1923 to pursue a career in acting. She began her career as a dancer and eventually won the title of Miss New York. Ruby made her film debut in the 1925 drama "The Midnight Girl," receiving positive reviews despite her small part. She was subsequently cast in the film "The Sorrow Of Satan" by producer D.W. Griffith, which led to a contract with Paramount Pictures.

Ruby went on to costar with Ken Maynard in several Western films, including "Gun-Hand Garrison" and "Ridin' Luck." Many critics noted her resemblance to actress Norma Shearer, and she attempted to boost her career by dyeing her hair blonde. In 1928, Ruby was offered a contract with Hal Roach's studio, where she appeared in several comedy shorts, including "Two Tars" alongside Laurel and Hardy.

Despite her early success, Ruby never achieved major stardom and quit acting at the age of twenty-five. She married millionaire stockbroker Irving Weinberg, but the couple divorced in 1930. Irving would later marry actress Betty Compson. Ruby moved to New York City, where she worked as a commercial model and club hostess.

In her later years, Ruby resided in White Plains, New York, before passing away on May 31, 1976, at the age of seventy-two, due to natural causes.
