Born and raised in the vibrant city of Las Vegas, Nevada, this individual attended Cimarron-Memorial High School, where they excelled in a variety of sports, including wrestling, football, and baseball.
As a teenager, they began training in the ancient art of Shaolin Kung Fu under the guidance of Ark Wong, a renowned instructor, around the age of 16.
Following their high school graduation, Nelson worked briefly as a warehouse worker in 1999, gaining valuable work experience and developing their work ethic.
In 2000, Nelson started their journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under the tutelage of UFC veteran John Lewis, laying the foundation for their future success in the sport.
Between 2002 and 2003, Nelson had a short-lived career in rugby, but they soon returned to their passion for martial arts, focusing on mixed martial arts in 2004.
Throughout their career, Nelson has been a dedicated student of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Master Renzo Gracie, earning the esteemed black belt on August 26, 2009, and competing at the prestigious Abu Dhabi Grappling Championships.
Professionally, Nelson fought under the UFC banner from 2010 to 2017, before his contract expired and he joined the Bellator organization, marking a new chapter in their illustrious fighting career.
