Biography

Ron Moody, a talented actor with a signature role, will be most remembered for his iconic portrayal of the mischievous and musical villain, despite having a wide range of other notable performances. Born in London in 1924, Moody was the son of a plasterer, and initially considered pursuing a career in economics or sociology. However, he ultimately became a stand-up comedian and improv artist in England, making his film debut in 1957.

Moody's breakthrough role came in 1960 with the London company of Leonard Bernstein's "Candide," followed by his iconic performance as Fagin in the musical "Oliver!" in 1961. This role earned him a Golden Globe trophy and an Oscar nomination, as well as increased recognition in Hollywood.

Throughout his career, Moody appeared in various TV series, including "The Avengers," "The Mouse on the Moon," and "Murder Most Foul," as well as films such as "Oliver!," "David Copperfield," "The Twelve Chairs," and "Wrong Is Right." He also had a successful career in children's television, appearing in shows like "Into the Labyrinth" and "The Telebugs."

In 1985, Moody reprised his role as Fagin in a Royal Variety Performance at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, in front of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh. He continued to work in television throughout his career, appearing in shows like "Hart to Hart," "Highway to Heaven," and "Murder, She Wrote."
