Biography

Roman Bondarchuk is a renowned Ukrainian director, hailing from the esteemed Kyiv National University of Theater, Cinema, and Television. With a rich portfolio of work, Roman has successfully directed a plethora of short films, documentaries, music videos, and feature films, including the critically acclaimed "Volcano" (2018). This cinematic masterpiece premiered at the prestigious Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, garnering widespread recognition and accolades, including a staggering 12 awards. Notably, "Volcano" was honored with the Shevchenko National Prize, the highest state prize of Ukraine for outstanding works of culture and the arts.

Roman's feature-length documentary, "Ukrainian Sheriffs", received widespread acclaim, winning the Special Jury Prize at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) in 2015. Additionally, it claimed the Grand Prix of the IDFF Docs against Gravity and was selected as the Ukrainian submission to the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. His subsequent documentary, "Dixie Land" (2016),premiered at the esteemed Full Frame Documentary Film Festival in the USA and received a Golden Duke Award for Best Ukrainian Film at the Odesa International Film Festival.

Aside from his work as a director, Roman Bondarchuk is also an art director of the Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival. Furthermore, he has been a member of the selection committee for the Ukrainian submissions to the Academy Awards since 2019. Moreover, Roman is a co-founder of the Ukraine War Archive project, an initiative of the NGO Docudays and Infoscope, since 2022.
